The Escape Game Remote Adventures: The Heist

"You in?"

overview

As an espionage agent, you’re the best person to thwart a major art crime. A recently stolen masterpiece is suspected to be hidden inside the office of Vincent Hahn, an untrustworthy curator for a world-renowned museum. With the help of an intelligence agent on the outside, you have one hour to find your way into Hahn’s office, recover the painting, and slip away unnoticed. You definitely don’t want to be there when Hahn and his entourage return.

This time, it's different. We're not stealing for personal benefit, but because it's the right thing to do. Kinda like Nicolas Cage has to steal the Declaration of Independence to save the world. Except we're stealing a painting.

Ok that was a terrible introduction. Just please get on with the quick stats

quick stats

scenery

Very few companies top The Escape Game's scenery.

The Heist looked beautiful. From the gallery outside Hahn's office, to the relics and ancient artifacts inside, to the hidden vault with the painting, the entire game always looked amazing, even through a Zoom screen. In fact, we recommend playing this game in real life, as the entire time on Zoom you are just thinking about how you want to be there.

But we're not here to talk about that right now. Moving throughout three distinctive rooms, The Heist never loses sight of its goal. Every room is painstakingly designed to the last square inch, giving the room a different feel entirely. You truly feel like your avatar is inside a museum.

But that's the one problem. You feel like your avatar is in the museum. You feel a little like someone else is having all the fun. However, online escape rooms are still fantastic. If you're near one of The Escape Game's locations, we strongly suggest going in-person. You will not regret it. If not, this is the next best thing.

Statuettes have been carved for this room, paintings have been recreated, and even the floor and ceiling is different. The Heist transported us to a different world.

puzzles

Now this is where things get exciting.

Even from a Zoom screen, the puzzles are still incredibly fun. You'll be helping your avatar to investigate a map, remove keys from bottles in a very ingenious way, and even interact with both water and lasers. with the 360 degree room scan, you can even tell your avatar to go places you can't currently see because of the camera.

The puzzles are all well designed. They stick to the storyworld and make you truly feel like you are robbing Hahn's office. You are so clearly in a museum that you start thinking in a robber's mindset instead of an escape room player's mindset.

As you get closer to the painting, more secrets are revealed, the puzzles become even more interesting, and you learn that lots of objects in the previous rooms are hiding something...

pros and cons

pro: fun and well-designed room!

con: avatar is interacting with everything, you aren't. You pay money to guide someone else through the room

pro: looks like the real deal!

con: one puzzle towards the end leaned more towards the annoying side than the fun side.

pro: somewhere in the room there is a big twist... (we're keeping quiet though)

pro: engaging puzzles!

tip: if it's anywhere near possible, go to their physical location! As fun as the room was, we still regret playing it on Zoom and not in real life.

overall

If you get over the disappointment of not actually being there, Remote Adventures can be extremely fun. We probably won't do another one in the future, but we do recommend this to anybody who wants to experience The Escape Game if they don't have a location near them. With engaging game formats and a compelling environment, time will fly by as you try to steal back a priceless Monet from the evil clutches of Hahn.

rating

6/10

Oh and one thing about this rating: the room is a good 9/10, but we took away 3 because 6/10 is about how fun it was to play on Zoom and not in person.
